MULTIPLYING POLYNOMIALS using
ALGEBRA TILES

Access the Algebra Tiles activity* and work on the problems below.

Tips for multiplying polynomials using virtual algebra tiles:

1) MAXIMIZE the window and CLEAR the work area

2) Add the tiles for each polynomial to the work area by clicking on them

3) Arrange the tiles in the SIDEBAR areas to form the length and width "factors" of a RECTANGLE

4) Add the matching "product" tiles so as to fill the rectangle completely.

5) Use the "x" and "y" SLIDERS to test your solution.

Model the polynomial products below using algebra tiles, then write the simplified solutions to the right:

1)    (x + 2)(x + 1) =

2)    (x + 2)(x + 3) =

3)    (x + 2)(x + 2) =

4)    (x + 5)(x + 2) =

5)    (2x + 2)(x + 1) =

6)     (2x + 1)(3x + 1) =

7)    (3x + 2)(2x + 3) =

8)    (x + 2)(y + 1) =

9)     (2x + 2)(2y + 1) =
